The American Barber Association recognizes "Journeyman Barbers", individuals who practice barbering, without a license, but adhere to the highest standards of barbering.   Journeyman Barbers usually provide barbering services in restrictive environments such as highly rural areas, prisons or other related establishments, or the military.  Journeyman Barbers are committed practicing barbering at the highest level of professionalism.  (the Journeyman Barber Certificate is not a license to practice barbering).

To apply, following is the application process:

1. Join the ABA and answer questions during the application process.
2. The ABA will review your application.
3. The ABA will send you your Journey Barber Certificate via email and, if you request, a hard copy.
